KC Proposal Basics  Description: The basics of proposal preparation in Kuali Coeus, for both System to System (S2S) and non-S2S proposals. Attendees will learn the lifecycle of a sponsored award (and the roles of the MIT offices involved), how to enter summary and detailed budgets, various Sponsor submission methods and how to attach proposal documents. The class will include hands-on exercises preparing a variety of proposals in KC.
(Note: This class replaces prior offerings of the individual KC S2S and non-S2S classes.  If you took either or both of those classes previously, you have met the requirements of this latest offering.)

This course covers preparing a proposal in Kuali Coeus for a Non-Grants.gov sponsor (e.g. foundations or industrial proposals) from proposal creation to submission to route for approval

Class Materials

Budget Development Rates & Personnel   Description:
This course is scenario based, following the PI's initial budget request through several revisions, incorporating hands-on exercises to resolve challenging situations and best practices for budget creation. We will address the following issues:
Topics:
- Sponsor permits indirect cost of 20% TDC (resulting in underrecovery). 
- Sponsor requires cost sharing minimum of 10% direct costs.
- Personnel have an anticipated salary increases, and vacation that must not be charged to sponsor
- Extending the duration of the project, thus adding a project period.
- Adding a Summary person (without a Base Salary and Effort)
- Using 66% of tuition subsidy for cost sharing 
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- utilize the KC Budget module to handle budgetary issues 
- understand the full functionality and limitations of the KC module and apply this knowledge when preparing budgets


Pre-requisites: Individuals who plan to attend this course must have completed KC: Proposal Basics before attending. This class is best suited for people with experience creating proposals with budgets in KC.
